As the name suggests, Originals / Unpublished is an exhibition (in two places) by illustrators from Osona, showing two sides of the professional practice of illustration.

First of all, original illustrations have been selected, which were previously reproduced in books or magazines (displayed at Espai Romeu beside the Biblioteca Joan Triadú). The diversity of supports and techniques used by the illustrators in executing these works is apparent; such diversity has always been the case in illustrations such as these, but it is actually possible to establish two very obvious categories determined by the final support used in the original: paper (in its rich and stimulating variety) or digital. Although it seems as though the concept of “the original” only makes sense when the illustrations are completed on paper, and that this concept loses its meaning in digital artworks, the truth is that in the reproduction of these latter illustrations, certain transformations are produced which allow us, in a certain way, to keep the idea of “the original” alive: the illustration executed or completed in the computer, in being reproduced – exactly like a finished work on paper - changes context, scale and often colour (according to the type of printing, and the kind of paper on which it is printed). The illustrator, in many cases, maintains intact the affection for this piece called original (even sometimes if it is "only" the pencil drawing scanned into and coloured by computer), all of this always on the understanding that we maintain a certain fidelity to tradition in discussing the concepts of original and reproduction. In addition to showing these pictures as they came from the artist's studio (which would be enough), this part of the exhibition also aims to highlight how drawings used in storytelling, before reaching the hands of the reader, undergo a process which is not usually apparent to the eyes of the final receiver.

The other part of the exhibition Originals / Unpublished includes a selection of illustrations which, for one reason or another, have never before been published, and which we can now bring to light at ACVic Centre d’Arts Contemporànies, with no other pretension than that of encountering unknown works, illustrations which ended up in a drawer or a folder, from interrupted, or unfinished, or personal projects ... In short, unpublished works which we can now enjoy.
It must be said that, as part of a trend which is developing throughout Catalonia, Osona is showing a tremendous burgeoning in the world of illustration: now, to a number of historic names in this world, a good handful of high quality illustrators with active careers, and a considerable number of illustrative artists with a rich diversity of genres and styles of illustration, may also be added.
