ART i ESCOLA is a programme which promotes and highlights the presence of art in schools. The initiative establishes a network of partnerships among different organisations working in the fields of art and education, in conjunction with schools. It is based on the premise that education forms part of cultural production, and that the arts, considered from the perspectives of its many contemporary forms, may provide several useful tools for revitalising educational activities.
ART i ESCOLA is promoted by ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies, Centre de Recursos Pedagògics d’Osona, with Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Vic, H. Associació per a les Arts Contemporànies, Katacrack, UVIC-UCC, Universitat de Barcelona, and a number of interested contributors.
In each edition, a broad enough theme is proposed to introduce contemporary art in the classroom using an interdisciplinary approach. This year the theme was MAGIC.
Magic has followed humanity since time immemorial. This does not only mean sleight of hand, or pulling rabbits out of a hat, but also about knowing how to find the trick and the poetry in everyday moments. That moment between sleep and awakening, the metamorphosis of a butterfly, the division of cells which gives rise to new life, or the moment when a plane lands on terra firma; in moments such as these, there is magic, and a connection to the impossible. That well-known phrase “seeing is believing”, has this year become “believing is seeing”; believing in order to open ourselves up to possibilities, believing so that building these possibilities becomes a reality.
