Cicle of conferences
21st and 28th February - And 7th and 14th March 2011

Maria Zambrano (Velez Malaga, 1904 - Madrid, 1991) was, without doubt, one of the great voices of twentieth century European thought. Her broad and diverse range, expressed in fragmentary essays rather than systematic analysis, is embodied in writing which stands closer to artistic creation than the conceptual world. Zambrano's thought wove a new philosophy with the thread of poetic reason. A voice (philosophical? poetic?)like none other, either philosophical or poetic.

Her life and work were deeply crossed by the exile, which lasted forty-five years. "I love my exile " she wrote. And it was precisely during this period when she wrote her work: the shadow of which travels the world, and the margins of the world. Thinking of exile is thinking exile.

If, as TS Eliot said, "I question whether any serious civil war ever does end." it is now more than ever relevant to read Zambrano's words because they represent a different viewpoint and a possible Spain.
