Workshop with Maria Gambús
Thursday 30/05
From 4 to 7 p.m.
En el marc de l'exposició ART + ESCOLA + MORT
This workshop is centred upon the concept of change in matter, in order to develop an artistic activity based on the transformation of colour. It also centres upon change in matter in different phases of its life, taking into account the transformation of the body, as well as its material composition. A fruit is, in its beginning, a flower. The flower transforms into a fruit, and the fruit slowly ends in decomposition. Observations of these phases of the life and death of matter, and the changes that these processes entail, will help us understand how transformation of colour reflects upon states of matter.
The human body is also material and as such goes through states of transformation during its life. The workshop will address the changes in the human body. What is the critical point of a human life; that is, at what age would we place the fruit of human life? What colour would we paint it? How does it transform until it disappears as matter? Or does it never go away? Where might we place the end?
Come and explore the colours of the transformation of matter and the different states of human life.
This workshop is based upon a school project from ART I ESCOLA 2023-24, a project guided by Maria Gambús with students between 3 and 12 years old.

FACILITATOR
Maria Gambus, wife, mother, illustrator, teacher, art therapist, and artist. I live in a small town in Osona, but I grew up in Matadepera, Vallès Region. My artistic journey has focused mainly on illustration. Illustration has allowed me to express many things without words, from the silence of the voice and, therefore, using a visual narrative. Graphic art has been my method of expression since I was a child. Despite the wings that illustration has given me, there came a point when it fell short for me. Now that I am incorporating conceptual, visual, and contemporary art, I have a wider range of expression; expression of things which are much more visceral, and which have a more powerful social impact. Photography, sound art, video art, installations, and actions are beginning to form part of my most significant artworks. In addition, I have always linked art and education closely together. Art acts as a starting point for any educational project. This is why most of my works interact with a youth audience, or with children. I understand artistic education as collaborative art in which projects can grow together with children and young people, expanding upon their ideas and supporting them in their expression. Everything is valid, and everything can be explained if it is born from oneself; one simply has to educate or support with the how and let it take flight. Everything that comes out of oneself is precious because it is unique, and is one's own. https://mariagambus.com
