ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies, Foster & Wallace Bookshop and Editorial Seix Barral invite you to the presentation of Montevideo (Seix Barral, 2022), a book by Enrique Vila-Matas, with the author in conversation with the bookseller Toni Ferron.

The event will take place outside ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies (Sant Francesc, 1, Vic). In case of rain, it will take place inside the Centre, where the wearing of sanitary masks will be mandatory.

In the midst of a period of personal and literary transformation, the narrator of this novel begins to notice signs on the doors of rooms, symbols that connect Paris to Cascais, Montevideo, Reykjavík, St. Gallen and Bogotá; signs which guide him by stealth towards writing, to the desire to transform certain experiences which, at the very least, cry out to be narrated, into slices of life that.

Montevideo is a true fiction, a great treatise on the ambiguity of the world as a characteristic feature of our time, a novel in which Vila-Matas, at the height of his powers, finds a means of expression, when already everything seems to have been said; a feat which is all the more admirable, because the central core of his novel is none other than the modernity of the novel.
