Antoni Muntadas. (Barcelona, 1942) has been living in New York since 1971. His work addresses social, political and communication issues, such as the relationship between public and private space within certain social frameworks, or channels of information and the way in which they are used to censor or promulgate ideas. In the mid nineties he opened a line of research dedicated to the study of cultural translation understood as a contemporary phenomenon. This is represented by a series of projects entitled On Translation (1995 - in progress), with which Muntadas offers a collection of stimuli for reflection on what translation means in age of globalisation, talks about current debates within translation studies, and links them to the critical study of media and artistic production.

Muntadas has taught and directed seminars in various institutions in Europe and the United States, has been a resident artist and professor at various research and education centres. He has had a long and noteworthy career as a guest lecturer at the Visual Arts Programme at the MIT School of Architecture, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1977-2014). He is currently a professor at the IUAV University in Venice.
Muntadas has received several awards and scholarships from institutions such as the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on Arts, Ars Electronica of Linz, Laser de Oro in Locarno, the Premi Nacional d'Arts Plàstiques of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Premio Velázquez de las Artes Plásticas, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
He has exhibited in several museums, such as the MoMA in New York, the Berkeley Art Museum in California, the Contemporary Art Museum in Montreal, the National Museum Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires, the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona.
