*Discussion: Culture from and within the remaining 80% : 21st July
*Presentation of the event and Inland-Campo Adentro press conference : 6th july
*Plataforma Rural Art and Countryside Committee meeting : 21st June
The following public events have been organised to celebrate the launch of the Inland - Campo Adentro project. These events are driven by a coordinated cultural and political effort that for the first time in Spain serves as the basis for social debate about the countryside and the problems it is currently facing. The aim is to establish a new relationship between the countryside and the city, bringing together artists, rural organisations (Plataforma Rural), government representatives (Ministry of Culture, Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and local and regional governments), art centres ( Museo Reina Sofía,CDAN amongst others), academics (from five Spanish universities) and other European cultural organisations. A different event reflecting each season will take place over the next three years and the presentation of the project this summer will introduce the International Inland-Campo Adentro Conference, which is due to take place this autumn in October 2010. This reencounter of city and countryside and keeping a rural world alive can be a key factor for a transition towards sustainability as well as success factor for economic and cultural regeneration.

Different artistic interventions in local contexts will be presented and compared during the debate with the aim of discussing how identities and territories are established and how they influence one another. Having analysed specific aspects of different urban environments and how these have been conditioned by the unequal relationship between the centre and the periphery, we will ask how and to what extent relevant cultural content that is specific to each place can be expressed. The ideas and actions that form part of the Inland - Campo Adentro Project will be introduced and analysed on the basis of these experiences. Issues like the transformation of the rural landscape, development models associated with agriculture, food sovereignty and our relationship with the environment, which are generally not considered in any great detail, will be also be dealt with.

Despite the fact that humanity is becoming increasingly concentrated in cities, almost half the world's population live in rural areas. In Spain 20% of the population inhabit 80% of the countryside. We have grown accustomed to urban agglomeration, a technosphere which is overwhelming our natural systems and our culture seems to have built itself up around the cities of unagricultural countries. What if the countryside were the context for vibrant and innovative cultural creation: a specifically appointed and inhabited place with a different kind of dynamic and influence? Or perhaps we are dealing with a stage in human development that has now passed and a setting that is now more commonly associated with leisure and recreation? In any case we must consider the following: What happens in the countryside? How can we understand it? What can it offer us nowadays and what can it contribute to society in the future?
We will be taking a look at rural issues from the perspective of contemporary art and as an inhabited landscape in production. This is a project about territories, culture and identity in the relationship between the countryside and the city in Spain today.
This project provides the opportunity to come together, reflect and exchange ideas about a cultural strategy for the countryside. These ideas and experiences will be consolidated over a period of three years from 2010 to 2013 in an international conference, artistic production through a residency program, exhibitions and publications.
The project provides artists, farmers, intellectuals, rural development agents, policymakers, curators and art critics, amongst others from the rural and urban spheres, with an open platform for presenting their research and practical work. The content is gathered here before it is conveyed to the rest of society.
