ACVIC COLLABORATES WITH CIVICUS 2020
As in previous years, this summer ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies once again collaborated with Civicus, a youth summer camp in Vic organised by VicJove.
This year, more than fifty young people from Civicus, over the course of two weeks, tackled the theme of SOCIAL AND RESPONSIBLE ART, organised by VicJove, the departments of Environment, Cooperation and Participation in Vic City Council, ACVIC and the Red Cross, together making use of the arts to draw critical attention to environmental pollution, and to call for public responsibility.
The young participants created a variety of artistic installations using the waste they found along the rivers Mèder and Gurri, with the aims of calling into question antisocial attitudes, and promoting recycling to protect the natural environment.
The need for a change in the pattern of consumption and lifestyle is increasingly urgent in our society.
During the first week of the workshop, the young participants took part in activities related to sustainability and the environment, and were visited by professionals and experts in the fields.
During the second week, and from the waste collected along the banks of the rivers Gurri and Méder, participants created a number of artistic installations. These installations were located along the Green Belt, and were on view during the weekend of August 1st and 2nd.
Participants were divided into four working groups, among whom the cans, bottles, plastics and miscellaneous objects which they collected were used to create a variety of objects and activities, from a rainbow to a lake of refuse, from a garbage supermarket to an outfit to stage a performance. A large map was also drawn up that indicated the locations where waste was discovered, and the points most affected by pollution.
The projects may be seen at the Instagram account, @civicus_2020, which was created to promote the initiative, and to which the young participants themselves added content during the two weeks of camp.
This initiative allowed the various working groups, which could not share spaces due to measures arising from the pandemic, to remain aware of what other participants in Civicus were doing.
