INTRODUCTION
This co-creation workshop implements CoCreable Methodology to collectively design and build exhibition spaces for children.
It is becoming increasingly important to involve users in the design process. To achieve this effectively and efficiently, CoCreable has structured the process, using their own methodology.
In this course, students will learn to apply this methodology to design and organise a process of co-creation alongside participants with varied profiles, in order to enable everyone to contribute their creativity to solve the creative challenge proposed. The course will attend to the fundamental aspects which make a process of co-creation successful: how to design and organise the process, the open calls, the motivation of the participants, etc.
While also studying issues related to designing exhibitions for children: issues to take into consideration when designing for children, effective and low cost exhibition resources...

INTRODUCTION

There are many types of wordless books : those with images but which tell no stories; play-books which promote interaction with the reader, inviting her to find people or objects, to draw, to perceive shapes and colours, to combine images, to write, etc.; and albums and comic books which reveal a narrative.
The course will focus on wordless albums, books which tell, essentially through images, either fictional or documentary stories. In these sessions, different kinds of stories will be taught; versions, endless stories, zooms, metamorphosis, choral albums, etc. Examples of each type will be read and analysed (easily adapted to work with children and teenagers) to help us understand how these graphic stories work.
The course was created at the Barceloneta- La Fraternitat Library, attended by children from P5 and 2nd year primary. The sessions have been also conducted with children in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th years primary at the CEIP Orlandai; with 1st ESO (first year secondary) pupils; with young pupils of Middle Level Training course; at the Summer School Rosa Sensat; and at the Màster Oficial Educació Interdisciplinària de les Arts from the University of Barcelona.

OBJECTIVES
- Understanding different narrative types in wordless albums.
- Learning to interpret sequential images.
- Becoming familiar with the elements of visual language and its syntax.
- Encouraging the use of wordless books to promote reading and creating visual narratives.

COURSE CONTENTS
Session 1:
TYPES OF WORDLESS BOOKS
Understanding different wordless books, those which carry a narrative (albums and comics) and those which do not (as well as play-books).
RED RIDING HOOD [Versions]
Reading different books which tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood, in order to analyse various wordless versions. Can these albums be understood, just by reading the images?

Session 2:
ENDLESS STORIES [circular narrative]
Working with wordless albums which display a circular structure, in order to analyse the connections between illustrations. How can a reader place images in order in books she has never seen before? Movements in and out [zoom] Review of wordless albums based upon zooms. What strategies do the authors use to surprise us?

Session 3:
TRANSFORMING SHAPES [metamorphosis]
The protagonist is a shape, and its metamorphosis constitutes the action. How many pictures are needed to understand a transformation?
CHORAL ALBUM [parallel narratives]
Multiple stories, presented simultaneously . How many characters are in these books?

Session 4:
CITIES BORN [the passage of time]
The transformation of a space through time. How many years have passed?

Closing Course:
A presentation of work by children (P5 until 6th grade), teenagers and adults. What conclusions can we draw?

METHODOLOGY
The methodology is based upon the active participation of the attendees.
- Shared reading of a selection of albums which represent different types of narrative.
- Activities which reinforce the content of the session (sorting images, searching, creating images and narrative sequences, etc.)..
- Viewing and commenting on work done by children (P5 until 6th grade), youth and adults.

WHO IS IT AIMED AT?
Teachers in Early Childhood Education, Primary and Secondary schools. Open to anyone interested in art and education.

TEACHER
Emma Bosch, Departament de Didàctica de l'Educació Visual i Plàstica from the Facultat de Formació del Professorat at the Universitat de Barcelona.
